Character Guidelines

To ensure fair play, consistency, and a cohesive narrative in the Landfall SMP canon, the following guidelines have been established for players who wish to engage in multi-character roleplay. These rules outline character creation, switching, death mechanics, and the maintenance of established histories.

General Rules for Multiple Characters

  1. Character Limit
Players may play up to three characters at a time.
  2. Avoiding Consequences
Players cannot abuse multiple characters to evade consequences such as prosecution, political fallout, or social repercussions tied to another character. Characters must remain distinct individuals, and actions under one character cannot be retroactively voided or ignored.
  3. In-Game Distinction
Characters must have clear and distinct identities, including unique names, appearances, and personality traits, to prevent confusion within the lore.

Character Creation

  1. First Character
Players may create their first character without requiring a written background, allowing new players to explore their character’s identity naturally in-game.
  2. Optional Character Sheets
You are encouraged to create a character sheet, but it is not strictly required. However, if your character becomes important in the canon and no character sheet has been provided, details of your character may be inferred by Divinity (admin discretion).

Character Death

  1. Consent-Based Deaths
A character may only be killed if the player explicitly consents to the death.
  2. Divine Decree
A character may be killed without consent only by a Divine Decree—an admin intervention deemed necessary for the integrity of the lore or resolution of major server-wide events.
    • Examples: Key betrayals, the conclusion of a long-standing rivalry, or lore-related sacrifices.
    • Divine Decrees are rare and will only occur after thorough discussion with involved parties.
  3. Finality of Death
There is no resurrection mechanic. Once a character is killed, they are permanently removed from the lore except in rare cases fulfilling an LCR (Lore Catalyst Request).
  4. Post-Death Roleplay
After a canon death, players must avoid out-of-character actions, such as pursuing revenge with another character. In rare cases, "avenging" a character's predecessor can make sense, but is generally discouraged. Such actions will be reviewed, and the character may be barred from further involvement in related situations.

Maintaining Character Histories

  1. Continuity
All characters, regardless of when they are created, are part of the ongoing story. New characters must not contradict existing lore.
  2. Transitioning Between Characters
Players must clearly communicate when switching between characters in canon contexts to avoid confusion.
  3. Complex Backstories
Character backstories involving intricate histories, long ancestral lines, or divine intervention are generally discouraged unless they were played through or developed naturally in-game. Any tangible divine intervention beyond simple "visions" or "seeing the light" requires prior Divine approval. Additionally, all complex backstories are subject to review by Divinity to ensure consistency with the established lore.

Admin Oversight

Admins will monitor character transitions, deaths, and roleplay dynamics to ensure fair play and protect the integrity of the Landfall SMP lore. If issues arise regarding character misuse or lore contradictions, admins may intervene to resolve disputes.
