Roscarte Coup
Overview
The Fall of Ehrengard Empire, often referred to as Viva la Maison du Roscarte was the rapid and brutal dismantling of the Ehrengard Empire, orchestrated by House du Roscarte in a calculated coup. The event saw the exile of Empress Avery R. Ehrveil, the execution of her allies, and the total dissolution of the imperial system, replaced by the new Dominion of Sovarre, ruled under the iron grip of Seraphine du Roscarte.
The coup was carried out with surgical precision, beginning with the assassination of Porter Ehrveil, the empire’s last true defender, and culminating in the forced abdication of Avery and the total erasure of the Ehrveil dynasty from official history. With no throne, no government, and no opposition powerful enough to resist, Ehrengard ceased to exist, and House du Roscarte ascended as the absolute rulers of a new order.
Prelude to the Coup
Ehrengard’s Weakening Grip
By the time of its fall, Ehrengard was already faltering, with noble factions divided between loyalists seeking reform and opportunists hungry for power. Avery’s reign, while idealistic, was seen by many as too soft to maintain control over an empire built on strength.
Meanwhile, House du Roscarte had been building its influence in the shadows, operating through a web of noble conspirators, military defectors, and economic leverage.
Seraphine’s Breaking Point
Seraphine du Roscarte once believed in Avery's vision of leadership—until Avery chose love over power, refusing to take the necessary steps to seize absolute power. To Seraphine, this was not just a betrayal but proof that Avery was unfit to rule.
With that, Seraphine cast aside any illusion of loyalty and set into motion a plan to take the empire for herself.
The Takeover of Ehrengard
Phase One: The Killing Blow
"The first step to killing an empire is to kill its sword."
- Porter Ehrveil, Secretary of Defense and Avery’s strongest ally, was lured into a trap under false pretenses.
- Enzo du Roscarte executed him publicly, displaying his body as a warning to all who resisted.
- Propaganda labeled Porter a traitor, ensuring no military leader would challenge the coup.
- Without Porter, Avery lost her strongest defender, leaving the imperial capital vulnerable.
Phase Two: The Seizure of the Imperial Palace
"Ehrengard did not fall in battle. It was abandoned by its own ruler."
- With Porter dead, Seraphine’s forces stormed the capital, taking the Imperial Palace in New Terranova with almost no resistance.
- Avery fled into exile, unable to rally the remaining noble houses.
- Before the sun rose, the Ehrveil dynasty had ended—Seraphine stood as the new sovereign of the fallen empire.
Phase Three: Dismantling the Empire
"You served the empire. Now, you serve me."
- The remaining nobles and generals were summoned to the capital and given a choice: Swear fealty to House du Roscarte—or die.
- The imperial bureaucracy was dissolved, and the Ehrengard Empire was declared dead.
- All official records of Avery R. Ehrveil and the broader Ehrveillian Dynasty were erased.
Phase Four: The Birth of Sovarre
"There is no empire. No emperor. Only Sovarre."
- The name "Ehrengard" was outlawed, replaced by Sovarre, a dominion ruled by House du Roscarte.
- All Ehrengardian banners, statues, and royal insignia were destroyed.
- Enzo du Roscarte took control of the military, enforcing Seraphine’s rule with brutal efficiency.
- Étienne du Roscarte consolidated the economy, ensuring total financial dependence on the new regime.
Aftermath
The fall of the Ehrengard Empire marked the end of a centuries-old empire and the beginning of a new era of rule through absolute power. House du Roscarte, once an influential noble house, had seized dominion through fear, manipulation, and the destruction of history itself.
Despite the overwhelming control of Sovarre, rumors persist that Avery survived—and that her vision for a just empire lives with her.
Trivia
